Mayan Palace Puerto Vallarta
Puerto Vallarta could be crowned Mexico's quintessential beach destination. Yet it's actually much more, thanks to the city's desire to re-cast its image as hip, cultured, and cosmopolitan. Readers of Conde Nast magazine bestowed the city with the crown of "world's most friendly" in 2002.
When you think of the Mexican Riviera, with its palm-fringed beaches, luxuriant jungle vegetations and posh resorts, lots of places come to mind. No resort better typifies the classic Mexican beach vacation than does Puerto Vallarta. From its sleepy village roots, it has grown into one of Mexico's most loved destinations.

Of all of Mexico's resorts, Puerto Vallarta comes closest to being all things to all visitors. It delivers 'round-the-clock activity (or blissful seclusion), sophisticated amenities, and romantic dream-like natural setting. It's considered the ideal vacation spot for the first-time Mexico visitor, while also boasting enough diversity of activities to keep people coming back over and over again.
Mayan Palace Puerto Vallarta is surrounded by championship golf courses, the world-class marina, shopping malls, apartment complex and excellent dining options.

Other special events, activities and concerts are held all throughout the city for the duration of the festival. All of these events are open to the public and free of charge.

Festival Gourmet - In its 13th year, the Gourmet festival takes place in November and involves the best restaurants in the bay area join in a celebration of cuisine. A special emphasis is placed on a friendly and creative exchange between grand masters of the art of cooking and young talents from all over the world.

Travel Tips:

I have been to Nuevo Vallarta twice.

On our first trip we saw the sites and were awed by the Cathedral of Guadalupe, and had a tasty time on the tequila tour. And no trip is complete without dinning at Cafe Des Artistes. However, what turned out to be the best part of our vacation was the day of swimming with the sea loins. Having traveled extensively in the Caribbean we have had many opportunities to swim with dolphins, stingrays, turtles, and even sharks and I must say the experience with the sea lions far surpassed any of them. The marine park was phenomenal.

If you are planning on visiting Nuevo Vallarta, be sure to check out the Fajita Republic Restaurant, in nearby Puerto Vallarta. Most of the hotels and resorts in the area really don't offer authentic Mexican food so make your way to Fajita Republic, which offers great "authentic" Mexican food, and a wonderful outdoor eating experience. It is so tasty!! The flaming fajitas are a must have order both for the flavor and the presentation.

  • The bus is the easiest and cheapest mode of transportation.
  • Exchange your currency if possible when you arrive in Mexico at a bank, you get a better exchange rate then if you went to a "currency exchange" place.
  • Rhythm of the Night is a theatre type show (local entertainment) worth seeing. A 40 minute or so ferry ride (beverages and music included) to an island. You will watch the show and be served dinner.
  • If you travel into town during the holidays the street along the beach is decorated, and vendors are selling local art.
  • On the beach, there are sculptors who carve amazing scenes in the sand, and there are plenty of great restaurants right on the beach.
  • December 1 - 12 "Guadalupe" Processions on the 12th is the festival and is Guadalupe Day ending at the church.
  • December 16-24 - Christmas Week.
In Mexico, they celebrate the holidays with parties, known as "posadas." This tradition is a re-enactment of Joseph and Mary's search for lodging in Bethlehem. Processions are formed to designated houses and carrying candles, the people ask for lodging through a melodic song. The host will refuse several times before finally opening wide the door, signifying the start of the party. If you are there during the holidays it is worth seeing.
