Park 79
This boutique hotel is located in one of Manhattan's most dynamic neighborhoods, offering a style that appeals to the discriminating corporate or leisure guest. Although Park 79 has been refurbished, close attention was paid to maintaining the history of the museum.

What to do:

The Macy's Thanksgiving Parade kicks off the holiday season every year as millions of people line up to watch the amazing parade of clowns, bands, and huge tethered, over-sized balloons. This is an event to remember. If you're not up to facing the crowd you can always tune in on a local channel and watch from the warmth of the indoors.

Other New York Holiday Events:

Get dancing! From November through January, the Radio City Rockettes kick off the Annual Radio City Christmas Spectacular at the Radio City Music Hall, at 1260 Avenue of the Americas. For tickets, call 212-307-1000.

During the winter months, the Grand Central Terminal becomes a holiday destination. For over a month, the ceiling in the main concourse is covered with an intricate laser light show to get travelers into the spirit of the holiday season.

The annual Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, located at Rockefeller Center at 47th to 51st, is a spectacular ceremony that signals the start of the Christmas season in New York. With live entertainment, more than 25,000 multicolored lights and celebrity glitz, this is a must-see event. The tree lighting will take place on Dec. 3, 2008 from 7 p.m. -- 9 p.m. and is free of charge.

Wyndham just opened three new properties in the "Big Apple," so be sure to check them out. With locations in Chelsea, Midtown and the Financial District, there are choices to suit every New York need.

Travel Tips:

  • First and foremost, bring a couple of flat comfortable shoes (boots for the winter)
  • The best way to get around NYC is through their subway system or buses, so make sure to purchase subway stubs that will last the whole trip it's a deal saver whether than replenishing it every time it runs out
  • Carry light. Most women I know love the big purse or (suitcases as I call them) but make sure to carry something small, a clutch perhaps with just the basics ID, cell phone, credit cards, lip balm etc... It eliminated the risk of putting it down and forgetting it. It also provides more arm space for holding the shopping bags if you decide to shop while sightseeing
  • As corny as maps are and pinpointing you as a tourist its good to have one handy. It every helpful with understanding and tracking the buses and subways throughout New York
  • With the holiday seasons, any place you go, there is a higher rate of robberies. Make sure to walk with a friend and well-lit area and be aware of your surroundings
  • I love Ripley's Believe it or Not! But the location in Time Squares was not very exciting. The artifacts inside were fake version of the real things but they did not even attempt to make them look real so to me it was a joke. But if you have younger children it will be a great trip!
  • The wax museum is amazing. A lot of celebrities
  • Though I purchase a NEW YORK sweater from the outside vendors (due to the rain) just be aware that they do shrink when you wash them
  • In Time Squares there will be people handing out flyers promoting comedy shows and what not, DO NOT PURCHASE IT, you can just go there yourself and there is usually a 2 drink minimum
  • If you are going as a tourist, the best deal is the New York Pass, gives you free access to most of the sightsee, discounts at certain restaurants and stores, free gifts and you get to skip most of the lines.... http://www.newyorkpass.com/

Have fun!

I recommend not staying at the ordinary Time Square but in Greenwich Village, SoHo or around central park. Soho has got the perfect unique shopping's. And of course do not forget Macy´s. Just across the street from Macy´s you find some nice places to get a cup of coffee or lunch.

For breakfast I recommend Andrews Coffee Shop at Broadway 38th street.

Take a train to Harlem and see a real Gospel choir with the locals is a unique experience. But be careful walking around in Harlem by evening.

New York by foot are great and I recommend to you to see N.Y by foot, it's not so far between distances. Bring sneakers. Take a walk on Broadway Bridge, all the way to Battery Park (where the boats to Liberty statue leaves from), walk in Central Park. Walk walk walk... If you get tired you always can hop on to the subway. There are also sightseeing buses with hop on hop off tickets. At the tourist office at Time Square you can take your picture with webcam, and post back home without cost. It's a fun easy way send a hello back home.

If you would like to make a different sightseeing I recommend a helicopter tour around the Liberty statue.

When traveling to NY, I have found the best way to see the city from an entirely new perspective is a boat tour. The Circle Line Boat tour is one of my favorites and best of all it is reasonably priced!

The Big Apple and the number one city for everything. During the Holidays has busy as the city will be, there is nothing more spectacular to see than the Macy's Windows, the huge Christmas Tree and ice skating in Rockefeller Center. New York is tons of hustle, driving is not recommended if it is your first time in the city. Taxis are available everywhere at anytime, so there isn't much need for a rental car. Public transportation is reliable but can be confusing, so just make sure you are confident on where you are going. Attire Recommendations: good shoes, scarf, hat and gloves. Must sees are Empire State Building, State of Liberty and seeing a play on Broadway. There are so many great places to eat, you will find yourself stumbling over restaurants. Definitely cannot leave the city without having a slice of NY style pizza to a hot dog from a street vendor aka "dirty water dog".

NYC is the greatest city on earth - Broadway shows, New York Rangers hockey and New York Yankees baseball - enough said - My 3 favorite things! A visit for a concert or sporting event to Madison Square Garden is something that you have to experience for yourself - the energy in that building (esp. for hockey) is unmatched ANYWHERE! If you want another great people watching site, head down to Greenwich Village and visit some of the tiny bars and pubs there, but they always have great bands - my favorites are all on Bleeker Street - The Peculiar Pub, The Red Lion, and Kenny's Castaways. So much to do in this city, there is no end!
