I recently went to Atlanta, GA for a "girl's weekend without Daddy's and diapers". Three of my girl friends and I lived it up for a weekend in GA. Our weekend included mani/pedis, good eats and drinks and a karaoke bar!
To start off the weekend, we ate lunch at a local eatery called The Vortex Bar & Grill. They are famous for their hamburgers and their "I don't care" service. The first page of their menu has "rules" for the restaurant. The first rule to the Vortex is: The Vortex Bar & Grill is not politically correct, followed by The Vortex Bar & Grill is not a Public Library, it is a privately owned bar and as such we enforce a very strict "No-Whining" policy. Sounds attractive, huh? We had a blast! Our waiter was extremely nice, helpful with any questions we had about GA and the food was delicious! The menu includes all types of creative burgers and sandwiches. My friend ordered a DOUBLE BYPASS BURGER, which is a burger topped with two fried eggs, six slices of American cheese, and eight slices of bacon, all served between the two grilled cheese sandwiches that we use in place of the regular hamburger buns. We had to order it just so see this bad boy! The price range for The Vortex was very reasonable.
At night, we hung out in the midtown/down town area where we visited local hang outs, including a karaoke bar. We signed up to sign, but unfortunately, they closed before our names were called. Oh darn... We had a great time watching people let loose and belt out some Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi".
Our hotel was located in Buckhead, which I highly recommend for a family trip. There was not a lot of night life, but the local subway system called the Marta made it really easy to get from our hotel to the down town area. The Marta also has a stop right into the airport so that was very convenient. We never felt unsafe at any point when traveling on the Marta. The locals were very helpful and the signs were also easy to follow.
I recommend Atlanta for a family vacation as well as a "break from reality with the girlfriend's" vacation.

Wyndham Vacation OwnershipAtlanta is a great city to visit. There is always something to do and somewhere to go. But please be aware that because lots of activities are geared towards downtown, there is also traffic at the most unexpected times like a Sunday afternoon on the major interstates like I-85 and I-75. If traveling for business or pleasure and have access to the internet, check for alternate routes or give yourself some additional time to go to your destination. Also for shopping Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza are great. Also the MARTA which is the rail system is good to get around downtown.

Wyndham Vacation OwnershipMy tip for travel to Atlanta, Georgia is, if a rental car is needed, please get a navigation system. If not you will experience the 285 highway initiation! This route goes literally in a circle and once when visiting my mom who lives in Stone Mountain, I circled that highway for several hours. It was extremely frustrating as I was trying to surprise her with a visit (obviously I didn't want to ask her how to get there). All I could think about was I just want to get there before nightfall.

Wyndham Hotel GroupAtlanta Georgia is a great location to visit! While stopping off in Atlanta be sure to visit the Coca Cola Factory where you can taste test a variety of Coca-Cola beverages. Also not far from the Coca Cola factory is Atlanta's Underground Shopping Center. This unique location is actually a historical site of the Original Downtown city center and gives a great opportunity for shopping and site seeing. And if you're traveling with your family be sure to visit Six Flags over Atlanta for a fun-filled day of roller coasters and rides.

Wyndham Vacation OwnershipTickets for a Braves baseball game are easy to come by so don't risk paying for scalped tickets. Watch out for traffic and random road closures any time of day due to construction throughout the city.
