Travel Tips for
Branson, Missouri

It's a fantastic place to visit during the Holidays and even summer! During the Christmas holiday, they have the Festival of Lights and the Trail of Lights. The Trail of Lights is personally my favorite because it's a drive-thru that seems like it never ends, and then when it does come to end, it finishes up at the Inspiration Tower where you can go up and see outside the elevator and it takes you to the absolute top and you can look out at Branson through a telescope. It's so amazing and something I'll never forget! I want to go back again for Christmas.

I went to Branson, Missouri for 3 days. There is so much to do and we went just before peak season. 3 days was not enough. We were told that in the summertime traffic is bumper to bumper. The city has built a few outer loop roads so the residents can travel to work and avoid the tourist traffic. I recommend seeing a variety of shows...as many as possible! SIX was my favorite. They are 6 brothers who use their voices as instruments and sing. We went to Dolly's Dixie Stampede. You eat dinner (with your hands...no silverware at all) while people and animals perform in a ring before you. I booked a room on the strip thinking we could walk to all the shows and attractions. I was wrong. The strip is 7.5 miles long. Definitely make sure you have a mode of transportation available. We were seeing 2 to 3 shows a day and it wouldn't have been possible without a car. We went to the Titanic museum. The outside of the building is the Titanic sinking. The museum itself is interactive. At the beginning you are handed a passenger card and after you go through the whole museum, you find out if the passenger you were given survived or perished in the sinking of the ship. There is an iceberg exhibit you can touch. Well worth the price even though it was expensive...$44 for 2 people. Very educational! I could go on and on about Branson. We will definitely be returning within the next couple of years. There is something to do for everyone...elderly couples, young couples, families etc.!

My sister and I went a few years back and had NO idea we would have as good of a time as we did. We thought, "Why Branson?" or "What's in Branson?" Surprisingly, it is one of the best vacations we have ever been on.

Place to Eat - Shorty Small's has THE best buffalo wings and barbecue. I have never tasted better wings to this day. Right in downtown Branson and worth the visit!

Activity - Although it's a 2 ½ hour drive, the kayaking trip on Jack's Fork and Current was the highlight of our trip. We used out of Eminence, Missouri and had a wonderful time! We took the 8 hour kayak trip, but they also have shorter kayak trips available. The river was so deserted it felt as if it were all for us. It was a leisure river most of the time, with very small rapids at spacious intervals, and we could stop almost anywhere we chose. I recommend bringing sandwiches for lunch and stopping to have a picnic and just take in the sights. There are rope swings and cliffs to jump off of all along the way. The water is so deep and the sights are absolutely beautiful. Pay attention to when you need to pull off the river to meet the van to take you back, but don't stress too much about it since it's really obvious. There'll be forks all along the river but don't worry because they all go to the same place. After the kayaking trip, I'd suggest going to the town of Eminence for a dinner at the local place on the only main road there is. You can't miss it in Eminence, which only has a population of about 500.

Entertainment - We watched "Acrobats of China" that happened to be in town and really enjoyed ourselves. Keep an eye out for discount tickets as there is no need for you to pay full price.

Downtown Branson - There are so many cute local stores, restaurants, pastry and candy shops lining the small, tucked away streets. You want the best berry cobbler you've ever had? You got it! You'll see it advertised and trust me... you WANT to stop! The stores have amazing deals on antiques, cool gadgets and this is the place to go for presents for family. We went there two or three times during our stay and enjoyed it every time.

Branson is beautiful in the fall with the trees changing colors. Silver Dollar City is a must-see theme park that provides entertainment and fun activities for the whole family. A tour of the Marvel Cave is an amazing adventure. Spend a lazy afternoon fishing trout at Lake Taneycomo.

For your evening entertainment, there are several wonderful, wholesome shows that the whole family can enjoy.

If you are coming to Branson, and you love the outdoors, one hidden little secret is Dogwood Canyon. This gorgeous location has paved trails running through a valley, where you can walk, run, bike, or take a tram ride that will take you into Arkansas, where you will see a variety of wildlife. It is a perfect location for beautiful family pictures with the waterfalls, and neatly trimmed grass. They have trout fishing, horseback riding, and the kids can feed the trout, but watch out they may splash you as they go for the food! You will also need to stop into Billy Gail's, which has the best breakfast in town, but you will miss it if you blink, so ask Guest Services for the location. There is something for everyone in Branson regardless of your age.

When travelling to Branson remember that the best time frame to travel is from April - early January, as this is the time that the shows are in full swing. Branson is an amazing and affordable getaway for the Holiday season. Branson is less than a day's drive for one-third of Americans. You may also fly with affordable fairs from many cities into the new Branson airport. If you're more into Celebrating the Christmas Season, don't miss Branson's Ozark Mountain Christmas which runs Nov 1st-Dec 31th. The celebration truly starts with Silver Dollar City's square, the setting for Christmas on Main Street. HotelsCombined.com named Silver Dollar City home to the #1 Holiday Light and Tree Show in the nation! Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede also changes up the routine to pay tribute to the spirit of Christmas in America! If you have little ones, don't forget to attend the Miracle of Christmas at Sight and Sound Theater. The Sight and Sound Theatre in Branson is a state-of-the-art production venue complete with a mechanical stage, 40-foot-tall sets, pyrotechnic engineering, extensive flight system, multimedia and 3-D video presentations, and lasers. All these production elements work together to bring classic Bible tales to life on stage. Missouri is also rich in Native American culture, which is brought alive by the spirit of Brule', the American Indian Rock Opera. Please note, many shows only run until the first week of December, so don't forget to check the calendar if there is a specific show you don't want to miss!

Branson also offers a wide variety of shopping. The Tanger mall houses many popular brand name stores such as Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Coach etc. all at outlet prices! The Branson landing is also an amazing place to spend the evening shopping and dining. It features a 1.5 mile scenic boardwalk along Taneycomo Lake which also overlooks the 7.5 million dollar water, light, fire and music feature that was designed by internationally renowned Wet Design, the producers of world class shows such as the Bellagio in Vegas.

No matter your age, Branson has everything to afford you an exciting, affordable vacation that will be sure to create many memories to be enjoyed for years to come!

Branson is a SUPER place to visit any time of the year as it has all four seasons. There is something for everyone of ALL ages to do - from children to Seniors.

My advise would be to bring comfortable shoes for walking and remember there are NO FLAT roads so if you are bicycling or walking, be prepared for the hills.

Silver Dollar City is a must to do whatever age you are - Plenty of festivals all during the year to keep you in the mood of the season.

There are shows of every culture to suit anyone and they are SPECTACULAR!!!

Go to Branson, MO - you will have a GREAT time!

I grew up in the Ozarks, lived and worked in Branson for several years and would definitely recommend it as a vacation destination. Summer means BYOB....bring your own boat, that is. But don't worry if you don't own one. You can rent a boat or jet ski and enjoy Table Rock Lake all day and then spend your evening at one of the many music shows on "the strip". Fall brings cooler temperatures and fiery colors as the leaves change and the Ozark hills turn into a patchwork quilt of autumn beauty. My favorite time of year in the Ozarks, though, has to be the Christmas season, from mid-November through the end of December. There are lights and Christmas decorations everywhere and plenty of Ozarks hospitality. You'll definitely want to have a car so you can drive through all of the holiday displays. And Silver Dollar City during Christmas is a must see. Miles and miles of holiday lights, a four story Christmas tree and beautiful holiday music ringing through the hills. If I close my eyes I can almost smell the kettle corn and mulled cider and hear the faint strains of Joy to the World.

Branson for the Holidays-- Branson Area attractions offer a variety of experiences for all. The Sight and Sound Theatre has two holiday productions- Noah the Musical and The Miracle of Christmas, both of which include live animals. The Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede Dinner Show is a delicious Western adventure. The Titanic Museum has over 400 personal artifacts from Titanic passengers and a replica of the Titanic's Grand Staircase. The Hollywood Wax Museum and the Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum both have amazing exhibits. Live holiday entertainment includes local variety shows and also top performers such as: The Oak Ridge Boys, Johnny Mathis, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Jim Stafford, Andy Williams, Mel Tillis, Mickey Gilley, The Gatlin Brothers, Tony Orlando and the Lennon Sisters.

An Old Time Christmas at Silver Dollar City theme park is a holiday experience set in the 1880's. Watch pioneer craftsmen demonstrate their skills, marvel at millions of holiday lights and warm your hands on hot chocolate and apple cider. Have you ever ridden a roller coaster in the winter? All rides are open (weather permitting) and you will discover that blasting off from 0 to 53 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds will REALLY take your breath away on a crisp winter night !

Branson MO includes some great locations that many folks might overlook on a typical Branson visit.

Take time to visit College of the Ozarks at Point Lookout, just 3 miles from downtown Branson. This school provides a unique education experience as students work on campus to pay their tuition. The school is located on top of the mountain overlooking Branson and offers beautiful skyline views and overlooks along with breathtaking landscaping.

Take time to visit the museum hosted at the Keeter Center to learn more about this memorable school that has been in the Ozarks since 1906.
