Travel Tips for
Lake Tahoe

Not only is Lake Tahoe accessible by auto, families can utilize the services offered by the Reno International Airport (approx. 1 ½ hour drive) or the Sacramento International Airport (approx. 2 ½ hour drive).  For those with personal flight transportation or charter service, Lake Tahoe Airport is a local option.  Lake Tahoe Airport offers Minta Air Taxi and Charter Services from the Bay Area & Sacramento direct to South Lake Tahoe.  Helittahoe Helicopter Services is another option for personal transportation or a day of site seeing and fun.

A fairly strong La Nina is forecast for 2010.   Many of the Wyndham properties or WorldMark South Shore at Zephyr Cove as well as WorldMark Lake Tahoe at Tramway offer close proximity to ski lifts and shopping alike, with a multitude of restaurants. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy a resort destination with a fantastic winter outlook.

Lake Tahoe is simply stunning!  You can go any season and be blown away by the beauty of the lake and surrounding region.  North Lake Tahoe is much more down to earth with a local feel.  There are some older casinos that claim Frank Sinatra used to frequent them on his vacations and are a lot of fun to visit.  South Lake Tahoe is more touristy with the larger hotels and casinos right on the lake.  Nearby to North Lake Tahoe, Truckee and Squaw Valley are great for some shopping and good meals--definite stops on your destination vacations!  Be sure to see some US history by visiting Donner Pass which a narrow pass in the gorgeous Sierra Nevada Mountain.  If it's warm enough, be sure to take a ride on one of the many boats that go around the lake and make sure it includes Emerald Bay.  It's a beautiful little cove on the lake where the water is emerald green.  I took many pictures and they are still hanging in my house today.  And if you enjoy skiing or snowboarding, you won't want to go anywhere else after visiting these striking mountains.  I can't wait to go back!

Lake Tahoe is a gorgeous expanse of some of the most expensive real estate in the country and everybody should try to see it, especially since we have such a nice Worldmark Resort there.  But it is also a good jumping off spot to travel down the "Forty-niner", a state route that takes you through the gold country of California and eventually to Yosemite National Park. Such colorful history, both natural and cultural, abounds that you might want to take two days for this trip.  If you want to really stretch it out, you can visit Sequoia and Kings Canyon Nation Parks south of Yosemite, wander through Death Valley, and wind up near Vegas for a stop at Grand Desert!  Now that's a trip!
