The baby is almost six months old and we've just bought a bigger house, which means that it's time to go back to work. It's amazing how many of my friends, relatives and complete strangers feel the need to comment on my personal stay-at-home or go back to work dilemma. This is not a CHOICE for me, people! It's a necessity at this point of my life! Do they not realize that it's hard enough to try balancing it all - family, career, life ... no one needs the added guilt!
The thing that really threw me off was that my single, 60-something year old Uncle found it necessary to comment to my Mother that "obviously Travel Girl chose career over staying home". And went on to say that he understands how "hard it is" to raise a child so he could get that I would need a break. Um, you have NO FREAKING CHILDREN and NO UTERUS!! So NO, you do NOT understand. Not to mention, there was no choice to be made. If he would like to pay my salary, I'd be happy to spend each day at home, hanging with my cutie.
The part of it all that I truly do not get is when women feel the need to attack each other based on the work/stay at home decisions. Ladies - can't we all just get along?
