The First Overnight

I did it! The first overnight trip without the baby. Now, it wasn't the romantic bed and breakfast trip with my hubby that I had planned - no, that keeps getting postponed due to life's little interruptions. This was a whirlwind business trip to Chicago and then to Los Angeles.  Now, granted, I was only gone for a whopping total of about 40 hours but mommies, you know that 40 hours without your baby in close proximity, let alone the same state, makes you nervous.

I was worried that my husband would forget to give the babe his meds, my plane would crash upon take off or landing, that the wee one would not be able to sleep without knowing that momma is in the house ... you know, the general laundry list of concerns.

Destination Memories

I was driving to daycare from work yesterday, thinking about all of the things that were waiting for me at home on my ever-growing "To-do List" when Wish you Were Here by Pink Floyd came on the radio. Immediately I found myself daydreaming about the care-free days of summer after my senior year of high school. How nice not to have any real responsibilities, no money concerns, fun high school romance... you see, that was my senior year prom song. Random and bizarre, I know - I thought so back then too, but we all loved it so it stuck. And even now, multiple years later, whenever I hear it, I'm back at age 17. Driving my cute blue Jeep, barefoot and "working" oh so hard as a swimming pool lifeguarding... ah, to be young again.

My American Express has been put on a diet. Sob! Between the shaky economic forecast, having the baby and moving into our new home, we've started to put a dent in our savings so my groom and I have decided that the only thing left to do is to create a budget and stick to it.

Gone are my daily Starbucks, no more regularly scheduled massages (which I haven't really had since I had the baby but still... knowing that it's a no-no makes me want to run out and hop right up on that table!), no new super-cute shoes just because they're on sale... you get the picture.

Good Reads on the Road

I'm one of those people who doesn't just read a good book but devours it. I've been known to stay in the car while my husband runs in to the grocery to pick up that last minute item so that I can get in a few more pages... to wait until the last second before leaving the house so that I can finish a chapter and to stay up way past my bedtime because "I only had another 100 pages until I was done with the book".

When I travel, I load up with at least three or four good books and often make a stop in the airport bookstore or, if on a road trip, at a book store for my literary fix.
