There is something about being on a golf course that completely relaxes me. The smell of the dew on the grass first thing in the morning. The dizzying shades of green, blue and tan (though you do want to avoid the bunkers!). That little glimmer of hope on every tee, the sense of peace everywhere on the course. I worked in the golf industry for years before becoming a mom and working at Wyndham Worldwide and I've always loved being involved in golf tournaments.
I was thrilled that I was able to attend the Wyndham Championship (a PGA TOUR golf tournament) last week. My husband was teasing me because I was just so excited to get back to a professional tournament -- "Will you even be able to sleep?" he asked while we were getting ready for bed the night before I left. It reminded me of those nights before big vacations when I was younger, so excited for the adventures that lay ahead. And, an adventure the Championship was!
Being at the Wyndham Championship was like being the former-Alyson -- the "I am an independent, smart, working woman who wears clean clothes (no kiddie-snot, vomit or baby yogurt on this lady!) and doesn't have to worry about naptime, bathtime or bedtime routines." I missed that person! (hmmm, do I sense the need for a girlfriend's getaway in my near future??)
One of the highlights for me at the Championship was being included in the inaugural Women on Their Way Advisory Board meeting. SO exciting to see it all coming together! We have such smart, successful women on our board and they are really excited to be involved.
Ladies, I'm telling you ... the industry is in for a shake up! These women have such great ideas and I really believe that Women on Their Way is going to have a positive impact on the way that women travel. I'm just so excited to be a part of it -- and you should be too!
The original program was a huge success -- just look around your hotel room the next time that you travel. See that coffee pot? Women on Their Way. How about the skirt hangers? Yup, that too. Like that your room is closer to the elevator than your male co-workers? Mmmm-hmmm. Women on Their Way again. More kudos to the program? When you got your key at the front desk, your room number was not announced out loud (at least at any of our properties). Smart, right? Wyndham certainly thought so!
So hold on to your hat and get ready for the very cool roll-outs that we have planned for all of you women on your way. It's going to be a great ride.
And, by the way -- the women on our board are not only smart, they are also fearless! Day two of the meetings included a ladies' golf clinic and although many of the women had never played before, they put on their Wyndham Championship golf shirts and dragged those rental clubs out to the range for a morning of lessons, laughs and fun. The clinic even got coverage on CBS Sports! It's nice to see the women out there, even during a PGA TOUR broadcast.
