It's beautiful outside. The sun is shining, the air is warm ... and your kids are slothing it up in front of the TV. What's wrong with this picture!? Get em outside!
I feel you - it can be really hard to come up with new exciting things to do with the kids over the summer. They want to lounge and relax but you want them to be mentally stimulated, active and engaged. What's a parent to do?
I was given a really cool book by my Mom, an educator. It's called the "Class Trip Directory" and it lists "day, overnight and travel trips for school scout and youth groups". This thing is a mother's dream. Including everything from Dude Ranches to Planetariums and everything in between, the guide gives you the nitty-gritty details that you need to plan a fun outing: location, phone number, the appropriate ages of visitors and a short write up of what's offered.
The website seems pretty cool and with 42 regions, you should be able to get the skinny on your hometown region or vacation destination pretty easily.
Check it out and let me know what you think. I'll be using this guide all summer long since the wee one will be in "school" only part-time since I'm home with the new babe. I'll be sure to come back to you with some fab recs!
Have you done a fun day trip with the kids lately? What do you recommend?
