I often catch up on reading when I am traveling. For the plane I bring my stack of magazines such as TIME, Business Week, Yankee Magazine, Reader's Digest and typically polish off at least one or two before I land. If I'm not in the middle of a book - or if it is a hard cover, which I leave at home because of the weight - I bring at least two paperbacks with me. That way way if one of the books doesn't grab my attention in the first chapter I have a second to fall back on. Once I'm at my destination, I'll plow through a book or two, if I'm lucky, and truly having a relaxing vacation.

I'm with you, John - I always bring reading to toss when done, newspapers, magazines, etc. I also always bring an empty overnight mail envelope so that if there is reading or work I need to keep, I mail it to myself from my destination so I don't have to carry it back. Good books these days? In addition to Kite Runner, Three Cups of Tea is supposed to be excellent. Also, although a few years old now, Life of Pi was a really good book.

Several good reads I can recommend are (not in any particular order): The Secret by Rhonda Byrne, Empire Falls by Richard Russo, The Shack by William Young, Dreams from My Father by Barak Obama and Truman by David McCullough.

Reading on holiday is a thing of the past thanks to my active 3 year old! The only reading I get chance to do is a bedtime story for Lucas. My time will come again some day when I can enjoy a realxing holiday, for now I will be having far too much fun making sand castles!

I love to read mystery or romance novels while traveling...paperbacks that I can finish and leave in the airport for some like-minded soul to find and enjoy on their travels too.
