If you are leaving your pets at home with a Pet sitter or a friend or neighbor that is going to be checking in on your pet daily, alway notify your Vet and leave a signed note that your Veterinarian and/or Animal Emergency Clinic has authorization to treat your animal on behalf of your pet sitter. You may also want to leave your Credit Card number and date of expiration, depending on how well you know your sitter or Vet (we know them extremely well, we have 8 cats) so they have a good deposit or know any fees will be taken care of until we can get home to take care of things.
This will ease your mind and the sitters mind in case of any emergencies! In most cases, our pets are our family members also and we would almost take them with us if we could! So to ease separation anxiety, this will help in many ways!

That's a great tip! I have never even thought of that and we frequently leave our dog, MacKenzie, at the kennel when we're traveling.

Pet sitters can help a family feel at ease when they are on vacation. My family has relied on pet sitters, usually good friends, who are comfortable caring for our pets and they get to relax/hang out in our home at the same time. Our friends have told us they enjoy the change of pace and it feels like a vacation! In addition, you'll know both your pets and your home are safe and well protected.

The kennel where I leave my dog has a form that you have to sign stating that you are giving them permission to have your pet treated if necessary and the upper limit for the cost.

I would think that would be a normal request considering the liabilities that they could face in an emergency. Kennels are a great last resort if your unable to get a house sitter or your Vet doesn't board. Just make sure your pet has been given a Bordatella vacination (Kennel cough immunization) as that can be a very nasty viral infection animals pick up when around a multiple pet environment like that. Do your research and visit the kennels before leaving your pets at any facility! Happy Holidays to all.

In our case, if we are to go for a vacation without the need for air transport, we always consider bringing our doggiekids with us. This is to avoid any worry associated with leaving our doggiekids at home without me or their daddy. Pet sitters are good idea but still we have to check from time to time how our doggiekids are being fed. If we go for a long vacation and the means of transportation is by air, we ask either one of our parents to stay in our house and take care of our doggiekids while we are away. We would give them instruction on how to feed, what to feed and how to prepare homemade dog treats
for our doggiekids which will give them an idea what ingredients to avoid.
