A typical day for this 46 year old is waking at 5:15am; sharing my
morning breath with others at the gym; cheering on my 15-year-old son as
he runs for the bus with no coat and flip flops in freezing weather;
savoring a huge bowl of Frosted Flakes and arguing that it is indeed a
school day for my 7 year-old son.
From 8:30 to 5:30 I have the privilege to manage a team of extremely talented public relations and communications strategists for Federal Home Loan Bank of Topeka; I usually get home at 6 to find either my loving firefighter husband of 10 years "encouraging" our boys to begin their homework, which should have been done a day ago, or the wonderful young woman who has helped me raise my boys for the past 5 years. After kissing Brian or getting a debriefing of the day from Liz, I then fret of what to make for dinner that is low cholesterol (husband), low fat (me), vegetarian (15-yr-old) and tastes like candy (7-yr-old).
After reviewing homework and refereeing who has more time coming to them on the Wii, and debating with my youngest son if it is indeed time for him to go to bed, I usually joyfully collapse in front of the TV. Surrounded by my computer, phone, magazines, and a nice hot cup of tea, I begin to feel guilty about what I should be doing instead of watching my tivoed talk, home improvement and cooking shows.
I end my day thanking God for the many good things He has given me and asking help for the not-so-easy ones. I usually fall asleep in a matter of minutes and am surprised to hear the beeping only 7 hours later telling me to do it all over again.
