Now-a-days, social media has become a huge part of our everyday lives. But what about when we travel? Do you tweet on your business trips? Upload pictures of your family trip on Flickr? What about telling all our Facebook friends which restaurant you and your friends are hitting up on your weekend getaway? We want to know how women stayed connected while traveling.
Well, hot off the (stiletto) heels of summer travel season, Women on their Way commissioned a survey, conducted by Vision Critical, to find out. We polled 500 women between the ages of 18-50 who have a social media account and have traveled at least once this year, on how they use social media when they travel. Here's what we uncovered:
Key Findings:
Facebook is the most used social media overall, and also the most used social
media for travel related use.
- - 93% of respondents have a Facebook account
- - Two-in-three (68%) Facebook account holders use it for travel related
purposes
MySpace, Twitter, and YouTube are also used heavily for travel related
purposes.
-
- Between 25% and 37% of respondents have an account with one of
these three social media sites -
- Between 39% and 52% of account holders at each of these three social
media sites are using the site for travel related purposes
Almost half (46%) of social media 'travel users' are using social media during
their trip.
-
- This includes 53% of those under age 35
Laptops are the most common technology used to connect to social media
while on vacation, followed by Smartphones and then desktop computers.
-
- Roughly three-in-four (77%) use laptops, half (47%) use Smartphones,
and one-in-four (26%) use desktop computers

I went on a cruise last March and whenever I had access to Wi-fi, I uploaded pictures from my Droid smart phone onto Facebook. It is a great way for my family and friends to see how my trip was. Plus, since I didn't have access to a phone, I could send them messages on Facebook.
