8 Travel Tips from Super 8
Super 8 offers eight travel tips to help summer vacationers cope with the shrinking dollar and expanding fuel prices.
The tips are the brainchild of Lynn Hayes, a travel expert and editor of Family Travel.com, who advises travelers that advance planning can "add up to big savings, even at the most popular destinations."
Hayes, who writes regularly about family travel, offers the following ideas:
- Master the Web: Cruise the Internet for last-minute deals, background information on your destination, best rate guarantees and special offers.
- Remember that the best things in life can be free: Look for low-to-no-cost vacation ideas include taking scenic drives, visiting nearby beaches, parks and forests or taking a hike on foot or by bike.
- Look for the deals: Choose accommodations that offer free breakfast and Internet connections and don't charge for kids. Also, National parks are offering special deals this year.
- Cash in on your loyalty programs: Trade points for rooms or airfares. Also, choose purchases to accumulate the most points.
- Drive: Even though gas is pricey, it's generally cheaper for families to drive on short trips rather than fly. Driving also gives everyone the chance to see America up close.
- Book early or book last minute: Both tactics can provide savings over list prices.
- Travel off-peak and midweek. These tactics save money and help travelers beat the traffic.
