Carry-on
- Seperate the contents of your purse, placing items like lipstick and local currency in a small purse and credit cards, travel tickets and calendar into a folio case. Make sure both have positive closure and a strap or handle.
- Carry on your own personal amenities/toilet kit with the usual aspirin, vitamins, makeup, face cleanser (travel size) and foam earplugs.
- Carry-on a cosmetic case with change of underwear and a favorite book or magazine. Check everything else, as baggage delivery has greatly improved and if temporarily lost, will be delivered to hotel or home.
- Carry a cordless curling iron in your purse. This simple device will allow you to look groomed even after traveling all night.
- A clear fishing tackle box, for fishing flies, is great for use as a place to carry earrings and other jewelry items for your trip.
Products
- To save space in your makeup case, purchase sample or trial size products such as deodorant, toothpaste and hairspray.
- No time to clean your rings at home? On the road, simply pack an extra toothbrush, use your toothpaste (Paste, not gel), to gently scrub with warm water and your rings will sparkle. Thanks to S.K., a Women On Their Way subscriber
- Traveling with a solid foundation compact or stick instead of a liquid foundation eliminates the chances of breakage or leakage. Also, a single makeup compact containing your favorite blush and two eyeshadows cuts down on make-up case bulkiness.
- Bring along a few "feel good" personal items when you go on a business trip, such as candles and aromatherapy scented oils.
- If you have a hang-nail and no fingernail file, you can always use a matchbook.
Fashion
- Choose a color scheme and then plan your clothes. Take two jackets, two skirts and three blouses; vests and scarves are an easy way to change the look of an outfit.
- Pack or wear a black blazer. It's a piece that matches any slacks, skirts and jeans in your wardrobe, allowing you to project an instant business or casual look.
- Pack a basic black dress.
- When shopping for your business wardrobe, consider light-weight wool that holds its shape and produces a three-season garment. Travel in well-constructed shoes with heels no higher than two inches.
- Pack clothes and shoes for exercise.
- Pack a wardrobe you can fit in a carry on - A pair of nice cotton black slacks, a short- and long-sleeve black T-shirt, and two cotton jackets usually meet the requirements of a small carry-on bag.
- The key to style is blending in! Leave the wild T-shirts, blatant logos, mini-skirts and hipsters at home.
Pampering & Primping
- After a long airplane ride and day of traveling, soak a wash cloth overnight in your ice bucket with ice. The next morning, apply to face to reduce puffiness.
- If you have an extra 30 minutes or so on the road, consider giving yourself an avocado facial. Ask room service (or call the kitchen) for an avocado (preferably ripe, but not too ripe), a bowl and a spoon/fork. Peel and mash the avocado. The natural, enriching oils and the softness of the avocado pulp are the perfect substitute for a masque.
- Begin your day with 15 minutes of yoga postures. It gives you more energy and helps integrate your mind, body and spirit for increased personal and professional performance.
- Balance between self and business requires a "chance to recover." Find a quiet space in the airport, away from the chaos and ask for a room with a view, away from elevator traffic.
- The morning of your flight, put a bit of extra conditioner on your hair, but don't fully rinse it out. This will keep your hair from drying out while you are flying.
- Packing a small and empty spray bottle can be used to smooth out wrinkles in clothing by laying clothing flat on the bed, lightly spraying it with clean water and smoothing the fabric with your hand. Then, spray the back of the garment, smooth, and hang to dry. When in a hurry, blow drying them with your hair dryer works.
